Moving your reading history: the book tracker import and export table
Best Book Tracker Apps editors · Data refreshed 14 October 2026 · Editorial assessment
BookBuddy is the most portable tracker here, importing CSV files from Goodreads, LibraryThing and Google Books and exporting CSV, PDF or HTML. StoryGraph and Hardcover are close behind, and Hardcover and Literal publish developer APIs. Always export your library before you switch apps.

Why does portability matter?
Your reading history is years of work. An app that can export it lets you leave if prices, ownership or features change. An app with an API lets other tools use it. Where a column says 'Not published', the feature may exist, but we could not find it documented.
How do you back up your reading history?
- Export from every app you use once a quarter.
- Keep the files somewhere you control.
- After importing into a new app, spot-check a few ratings and dates.
