How do you get your Kindle books into a reading tracker?
Best Book Tracker Apps editors · Data refreshed 3 November 2026 · Editorial assessment
Bottom line.Goodreads is the only tracker we cover with a direct Amazon link: in the U.S., Canada, India and Australia it can add the Kindle books you bought to your shelves, and it syncs Kindle Notes & Highlights and Reading Challenge progress. Borrowed books such as Kindle Unlimited are not included. Fable imports Kindle book lists and Basmo imports Kindle highlights. The StoryGraph and Hardcover have no Kindle sync, so the usual route is Goodreads first, then an export into the app you prefer.

What does each tracker do with Kindle books?
| App | What it takes from Kindle | What it does not | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goodreads | After you link Amazon: books you bought, Kindle Notes & Highlights, and Reading Challenge and Year in Books progress. Your default Goodreads shelves show on a Kindle e-reader. | Borrowed books (Prime Reading, Kindle Unlimited), samples, previews and personal documents. Custom shelves and the Did Not Finish shelf do not show on the Kindle. | Goodreads Help, import your Amazon books; Goodreads Help, Kindle sync |
| Fable | Imports your book lists from Kindle. | We found no live sync published; it is an import you repeat. | Google Play listing |
| Basmo | Imports Kindle highlights and notes, and can sync them to Notion. | Not your full Kindle library. | App Store listing |
| The StoryGraph | No Kindle link published. It syncs with Kobo, and imports a Goodreads export. | Kindle progress does not flow in on its own. | App Store listing |
| Hardcover | No Kindle sync. Its FAQ says there is not currently a viable technical solution for direct Kindle sync. | You update progress by hand. | Hardcover FAQ |
| Literal | No Kindle import published; it reads your public Goodreads profile. | Kindle books arrive only if they are on Goodreads first. | Literal guides |
Not published means we could not find it on the pages we checked, not that it can never exist.
How do you add your Kindle purchases to Goodreads?
- Link the accounts on a computer first: click your profile photo, then Account settings, then the Apps tab. In the Amazon box, click Add Amazon Account if you have not linked it yet. You can also link from a Kindle e-reader during setup.
- On desktop, click Add your Amazon book purchases in the same Amazon box. Goodreads says the books appear on your shelves within a few minutes.
- In the iOS app, tap My Books, then the + symbol, then Add your Amazon books. In the Android app, tap My Books, then Add your Amazon books under Reading Activity.
- Check the result. Books you borrowed through Kindle Unlimited or Prime Reading will be missing; add those by searching for them.
Goodreads lists this for members in the U.S., Canada, India and Australia. If a book has no Goodreads record yet, Goodreads says it appears automatically within a few hours.
How do you get Kindle books into StoryGraph, Hardcover or Literal?
- Add your Kindle purchases to Goodreads as above, plus any borrowed books by hand.
- Export your Goodreads library as a CSV file; see exporting your Goodreads library.
- Import that file into The StoryGraph (its Import Goodreads page) or Hardcover (its Import Library page). Literal can read your public Goodreads profile directly.
- From then on, update progress in your chosen app by hand. Neither StoryGraph nor Hardcover publishes a Kindle sync.
Step by step for StoryGraph: moving from Goodreads to StoryGraph. If you read on a Kobo instead, The StoryGraph's Kobo sync does the logging for you; see automatic reading tracking.
What about Kindle highlights and notes?
Two routes. Goodreads syncs Kindle Notes & Highlights once your accounts are linked, and lets you manage them from Goodreads. Basmo imports Kindle highlights and notes into its reading journal and can send them on to Notion. Pick one place so your highlights do not end up split across apps.
Does a tracker help you remember a Kindle book?
Not directly. A tracker logs that you read a book; it does not recap it. Inside supported Kindle ebooks in the U.S., Amazon's Story So Far and Ask this Book do that job, and Recaps covers earlier books in a series. Our note on Kindle Recaps vs book trackers explains how the two fit together, and our page on Kindle Recaps, Story So Far and Ask this Book covers the details. For a supported title you also have in print or on audio, Magic Bookmark recaps up to the page or last phrase you give it, on iPhone.
