How do you track audiobooks in a reading tracker?

Best Book Tracker Apps editors · Data refreshed 3 November 2026 · Editorial assessment

Bottom line.Add the audiobook edition to your tracker, update progress by percent or time after each listen, and mark it read when you finish. We found no live sync with Libby, Audible or Spotify published by the trackers we cover, so you log by hand, but each player keeps a history you can copy from. For getting back into an audiobook after a break, Magic Bookmark's release notes have listed audiobook support since 21 October 2026: enter the last phrase you heard and its recap stops there.

Do audiobooks count as reading in a tracker?

In every tracker we cover, you decide. You can add an audiobook as its own format, and it counts toward your goal like any other book. The StoryGraph's App Store listing names listening goals alongside reading and page goals, and Bookly counts audiobooks in its timed sessions. Decide once whether audiobooks count toward your yearly number, and stick to it.

Kindle's Story So Far and Ask this Book are ebook features, not audiobook features; see our page on Kindle Recaps, Story So Far and Ask this Book.

How do you log an audiobook, step by step?

  1. Search for the book and pick the audiobook edition if your tracker lists one, so the length matches what you are hearing.
  2. Set the status to currently reading when you press play.
  3. Update progress by percent, or by time if your tracker accepts it. Players show elapsed and remaining time, so the percent is easy to work out.
  4. If you switch between print and audio, keep one edition and one progress unit in your tracker, as in our lesson on tracking print books, ebooks and audiobooks.
  5. Mark it read when the last chapter ends, and add the finish date.
  6. Once a month, compare your tracker with Libby's Timeline or Audible's Listening History, and add anything you missed.

Where does Magic Bookmark's audiobook support fit?

It is not a tracker, so it does not log the audiobook or count it toward a goal. It solves a different problem: you stopped listening a week ago and no longer remember who is who.

Its App Store description already said you could enter the last phrase you heard in an audiobook. The release notes for version 1.1, on 21 October 2026, and again for version 1.1.1, on 27 October 2026, say: "Now with audiobook support: get spoiler-free recaps for any book format." It syncs to the place you give it, and its recap, cast list, questions and character chat stop there.

The limits are the same as for print: supported titles only, iPhone only today (Android is on its roadmap), English only, and one credit per book, with the first free. Its App Store privacy label lists identifiers under data used to track you. Use it next to your tracker, not instead of it. Its audiobook place-keeping was already counted in our ranking.
