Reading app calculator: re-weight our scores and compare costs

Best Book Tracker Apps editors · Data refreshed 14 October 2026 · Editorial assessment

This calculator re-weights our one scored ranking, getting back into a book without spoilers, for all nine apps.

Our take

Move the sliders to weight what matters to you, and all nine apps re-rank instantly from our published scores on the five lead criteria. Pick free or paid tiers, monthly or annual billing and the number of readers to see each app's published US price, or Not published where the app does not publish one. With the sliders untouched, the table matches our ranking for getting back into a book without spoilers.

The scores are the same 0-10 editorial criterion scores used across this site. The calculator only changes how much each criterion counts. Prices are the US prices each app publishes on its App Store listing or its own help pages, checked September 27, 2026.

One subscription per reader account. Family or shared plans are not in our data, so costs multiply the single-account price.

Default slider values are our published weights: 30, 30, 15, 10 and 15 out of 100.

With your weights, Magic Bookmark ranks first at 7.90, followed by BookBuddy (7.65) and Bookly (6.85). This matches our ranking for getting back into a book without spoilers.

Costs are for 1 reader, paid tier, annual billing. Prices are US prices as published on the date checked, September 27, 2026, and can change.

Formula: your score = (spoiler safety x 30 + getting back into the story x 30 + price x 15 + privacy x 10 + logging x 15) / 100. Each criterion score is our 0-10 editorial score. Value = your score divided by the cost for one reader: per $10 a year with annual billing, per $1 a month with monthly billing.

How do I use the calculator?

What do the sliders change?

Only how much each criterion counts. The 0-10 criterion scores stay the same as on the review pages; the calculator re-weights them and re-ranks the apps.

What are the default sliders?

The defaults are the published weights of our ranking for getting back into a book without spoilers, so with the sliders untouched the table matches that ranking exactly. Each slider goes up to 50.

Where do the prices come from?

From each app's US App Store listing or its own pricing and help pages, checked September 27, 2026. Where an app does not publish a price for the billing period you pick, the table says so rather than estimating one.

Why is there no cost for BookBuddy in the value column?

BookBuddy Pro is a one-time purchase, not a monthly or yearly price, so we show the published price and leave the value column empty. Magic Bookmark sells per-book credits, so it has no monthly or yearly figure either.

Scores are editorial assessments from public sources, not hands-on tests. Prices are as published on September 27, 2026. How we rank
