Which book tracker has which features? The matrix
Best Book Tracker Apps editors · Data refreshed 3 November 2026 · Editorial assessment
Bottom line.Every tracker we cover has goals and stats; the differences are in clubs, data portability, scanning, spoiler controls and syncing. The StoryGraph is the only one with a live e-reader sync (Kobo), Goodreads links to Amazon and Kindle, BookBuddy has the widest export options, and Hardcover and Literal publish APIs. Magic Bookmark is in the table for comparison, but it is not a tracker. The matrix is facts only, with no scores.

How should you read the matrix?
- Start with Platforms. An app that does not run on your phone is out, however good the rest of its row.
- Then Import and Export. If you are moving from Goodreads, you want a good import; if you might move again, you want an export or an API. Details are in the import and export table.
- Clubs and Spoiler control matter if you read with other people; see book club apps without spoilers.
- Sync or link matters if you read ebooks: Kobo readers have a live sync with The StoryGraph, and Goodreads links to Amazon and Kindle. Everything else is an import you repeat. See automatic reading tracking.
- Paid tier is the last filter, not the first. Every tracker here has a free core app or free start.
Why is there no score in this table?
Because trackers are not ranked against each other on this site. The only scored ranking is for one question, getting back into a book without spoilers, with weights published on How we rank. For trackers, the book tracker facts page lists each app alphabetically with sources, and this matrix puts the same facts in one grid you can download.
Amazon's Kindle Recaps, Story So Far and Ask this Book are not in the grid, because they are features inside Kindle ebooks rather than an app you choose; they are reviewed on their own page, Kindle Recaps, Story So Far and Ask this Book.
Questions
Q1Which book tracker has the most features?
It depends which features you count. The StoryGraph, Goodreads and Fable cover goals, stats and clubs; BookBuddy has the widest export options; Hardcover and Literal publish APIs. Start with the features you will actually use.
Q2Which book trackers sync automatically with an e-reader?
Among the apps we cover, The StoryGraph syncs live with Kobo, since June 2026, and Goodreads links to your Amazon and Kindle account for purchases, highlights and Reading Challenge progress. Others offer one-off imports.
Q3Which book trackers let you export your data?
The StoryGraph, Goodreads and Hardcover offer library exports, and BookBuddy exports CSV, PDF and HTML. Hardcover and Literal also publish developer APIs.
Q4Is Magic Bookmark a book tracker?
No. It is in the matrix for comparison, but it keeps your place in a book and recaps up to your page rather than logging what you read.
